Muppets Most Wanted – Review

Ricky Gervais, Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog

Muppets Most Wanted isn’t the Muppets resting upon their laurels. It’s them lounging on a throne crafted from pure nostalgic complacency.

Ricky Gervais picks up where Jason Segel and Amy Adams left off. His character, Dominic Badguy, is just another print out coughed from the David Brent photocopier, complete with most of The Office manager’s queasy mannerisms: the smug lip biting, the flourishing pointing. He even manages to crowbar the infamous ‘dance’ into proceedings.

There are some giggles to be had and this isn’t their worst outing, but Muppets Most Wanted remains Jim Henson’s gang at their most mediocre.

The opening song belts out, “Everybody knows the sequel isn’t as good!” This line, meant as self deprecating humour, may as well be on Muppets Most Wanted’s tombstone.
